It is time for cherry blossom/ Hanami season! Japan is known for its cherry blossom trees, or Sakura, as the Japanese call it. Every year throughout late March and April, Sakura begin to blossom and thrive for a short two week period. It actually cycles throughout the country and a Sakura calendar is made each year to guide tourists.
Find that here (it will save your butt): http://www.jnto.go.jp/sakura/eng/index.php
Now, Nara prefecture, where I happen to be living this year, has some of the best Sakura viewing in the country. I’ll be making more posts on those pearlescent flower buds, but for now please enjoy this view of the cherry blossoms exploding all over the shrines in Nara City.
